We had a fabulous Fourth of July even though it was 6,000ยบ (that's a legit temp, I looked it up, Google told me so). It's summer so whatevs.

We just did a family-style-at-home-fourth since we are both back at work today. Boo. We tried to do the pool on the deck but it was just so dang hot that we couldn't stay out for more than a half hour. Total poons. I know.

Did you know Target sells fireworks? Yeah. They are as exciting as you can imagine. Nothing like my childhood. Ava still loved it, EZ was not impressed. He was all, Target-bought fireworks?! Pah-lease mom. So L-A-M-E.

Ava wasn't so sure about the sparklers at first but once she got the balls to hold the sparkler, well, let's just say we might have a little pyro on our hands. We also had poppers, which Ava took very seriously (see below). She has a very nice follow through. And we had smoke bombs. That's all folks. No bottle rockets, no whizzy-spinny things (J once burned a hole in his parent's screen door with one of those. So it would appear you need more than 20 feet of clearance with those.), not even snakes... what's the harm with snakes? Those are lamer than poppers.

J took Ava to see the big fireworks. He put her in the bike trailer and hauled it to the park, while I sat in the A/C watching the fireworks on TV as EZ slept. I was only slightly sad that I couldn't see the fireworks in person (watched the Macy's ones on TV), until I walked outside to water the flowers and was blasted in the face by the gates of hell.

They made it home around 10:30pm, Ava was thoroughly exhausted from the day. She said that she was so happy to finally see the fireworks... and she even got to say hi to a police officer. It's the little things with kids.
