birthday boy

Saturday was kind of a rough one. It was J's birthday. So that means the birthday boy gets to sleep in. Total crap but no doubt I'll expect the same treatment on MY birthday, of course. So when I say the day was rough, it was rough for me because I tried to do what I could to make his birthday special (i.e. wrangle the wild monkeys).

When Ava knew it was his birthday, she said we needed to blow up balloons and stick them to the ceiling like we did for her and EZ. Ahh I love how 4-year-old mind's work but sorry, mama's lazy.

She did pick out a card with a girl that had big ole boobies in a shiny, hot pink bikini. She liked it because she said she wants big boobies some day. Oh dear, my sweet little peanut... sadly it's not in your genes.

We ended up with a kung-fu-related birthday card because that's what her and daddy play every. night. before bed. every. night. We also picked up some clearance dart guns. Thank you Walgreens for that last minute pit stop. I'm all about properly teaching your preschooler how to load a dart gun and shoot it at daddy. So proud.

We had planned on hitting the pool after naps but the weather wasn't looking so good and we decided to go to a friend's house for an impromptu BBQ. My friend picked up some surprise cupcakes (to celebrate the old man) and all they had were cupcakes covered in 6 inches of frosting shaped like a tiger... cupcakes that would make cakewrecks.com proud. They were perfect!

I should note that the word "nap" is a loosely used term when it comes to Ava. Saturday it wasn't in her vocabulary at all and when we thought she was "napping" she was actually in our bathroom painting her toenails 20 different shades. She did a surprisingly good job and not a single drop of polish anywhere but her toes. I'm not even sure I can manage that.
