I'm thankful for the day off work tomorrow but it kinda blows that it's right smack in the middle of the week. Our 4th will be pretty low key this year since we both have to work the next day. I am working today but getting out early... whoopie!!! I'm taking the kids to the pool. By myself. One four-year old, one one-year old. I've lost my damn mind.
I bought a pool pass this year and it's been the best money spent. Except for maybe when that kid (not my kid) pooped in the pool and we had to get out for a half hour... and that time when the power went out and they were already on the backup pump and made everyone get out. They failed to mention this until we started asking questions after about a half hour standing in the scorching heat staring at the water we couldn't get it. We could stay there, just couldn't get in the pool. Which is pointless but then of course when I called home, J told me the power was out there too. Awesome.
Taking Ava to the pool has really helped her confidence during swim lessons. I was really afraid Ava was going to be THAT KID at the pool seeing as how she hates any kind of water on her face whens she's in the bathtub. She still hasn't mustered up the nerve to put her face in totally in the water but she's working on it. I'm proud of her and the progress she's made.
EZ... well I just throw EZ in the deep end and let him swim for his life... OMG I'M TOTALLY KIDDING! relax. But I am a bit more daring with him. I've dunked him a few times. There's no good way to warn a one-year old that you are going to do this. After a dunk he just looks at me like WTF DID YOU DO THAT FOR?! But he doesn't scream his head of like Ava would.
The pool we go to has a huge zero depth thing going on so it's great for little kids. It also has a playground and sand area that makes me cringe whenever Ava so much looks in that direction. Now I understand why my mom wasn't so crazy about the beach. I still love it though... sand in butt cracks and all.
Now that my body is functioning normally again (still plan on signing up for the Dirty Girl Mud Run next year) I'm not such a crab ass. I'm very much looking forward to an afternoon at the pool with my two favorite side-kicks and a whole day off tomorrow. I have all the fireworks that I could find at Target (poppers, smoke-bombs, sparklers) and we are going to make the best of the Fourth!
HAVE A WONDERFUL FOURTH... see ya on the flip side!
